I run Mika Logan Studios, an independent web design practice focused on building thoughtful, well-structured websites for professionals and small businesses who’ve outgrown DIY solutions.
Drawing on a background in software engineering and systems design, I approach each project with the same rigor I brought to large-scale technical systems: clear structure, careful decision-making, and long-term reliability.

I worked as a C++ software developer on Db2 pureScale, IBM’s high-availability database system designed for mission-critical enterprise workloads. The product supports customers who require continuous uptime, fault tolerance, and predictable performance at scale.
My role involved designing and implementing new features in C++, contributing to a large, long-lived codebase where reliability and correctness were essential. I also participated in on-call rotations, responding to real-world customer incidents and diagnosing complex system behaviour under production conditions.
I presented technical talks on this product, explaining system architecture and major platform changes, including the product’s transition from TSA to Pacemaker for high-availability cluster management. I honed my ability to translate complex system architecture into engaging and accessible explanations.

Working with the school’s learning management systems to transition various HBA and MSc courses to online learning in response to COVID-19.

Sole developer of a cap and trade emissions trading web simulation; used as a teaching point in a core course. Promotes experiential learning with a live simulation, real-time trading, user management functionality, and analytics. Commended for depth of interactivity and effectiveness as a remote learning activity for students during COVID-19.

Conducted both primary and secondary research through surveys, focus groups and online resources. Diagnosed inefficiencies and pain points to develop a comprehensive plan including geographic expansion, new marketing mediums and improved training program.

Independently assembled a competition package comprised of a programming challenge and testing suite aimed at Western Engineering undergraduate students. Co-ordinated planning among other team leads and judges to successfully run the competition.

Diagnosed, researched and resolved connection issues while tracking problems on the company’s ticketing system; diagnoses led to multiple access points being re-serviced. Built client-facing skills through troubleshooting and providing technical assistance to customers subscribed to the university’s Internet Service Provider

Developed an internationally deployed web application to analyze and predict future utilization of IBM staff in the Bluemix department. Worked in collaboration with development and management teams across North America to create software that is tightly integrated with existing infrastructure. Won 1st place for developing a management application prototype for use by the IBM Employee Charitable Fund and commended by the CFO of IBM Canada.

Helped interested students at Western learn basic coding skills by organizing coding workshops throughout the year. Presented a coding workshop to 30 young women in high school at the STEMPOSIUM conference in March 2016. Taught an Introduction to HTML and CSS workshop toWestern students and assisted at other coding workshops including a Swift workshop.

Tasked with learning the BMO Banking System, reorganizing the file system, handling customer requests and processing money from the Automated Banking Machine (ABM). Reformatted over 600 pages of confidential investment transaction information with 100% accuracy. Solved customer requests and exceeded expectations in customer service.
